The Invasive Alien Species Partnership Program (IASPP) Call for Proposals for 2012-2013 is open. Environment Canada will be accepting applications for funding until 5:00 p.m. EST November 21, 2011 for projects beginning in the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
Application guidelines have been created to help proponents develop a funding proposal. In addition to valuable information on completing an application, it provides information on program background, eligibility criteria, and the review process. Invasive alien species represent a significant threat to Canada's environment, economy and society. The Government of Canada is committed to reducing invasive alien species impacts and to preventing new introductions. An Invasive Alien Species Strategy for Canada (2004) seeks to protect Canada's aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems from risks associated with invasive alien species.
The Invasive Alien Species Partnership Program (IASPP) is a key component of the Government of Canada's effort to achieve the goals outlined in the Strategy. The IASPP provides funding to provinces, municipalities, non-government organizations and to other groups who are working on invasive alien species activities, which align with the goals of the Strategy. The goal of the IASPP is to engage Canadians in actions to prevent, detect, and respond rapidly to invasive alien species in order to minimize the risk the species pose to the environment, economy, and society.
The IASPP is a nationally delivered funding program that is managed by Environment Canada.
Funding through the IASPP is available for projects that address the threat of aquatic invasive species, terrestrial invasive alien plants and plant pests, and invasive alien animals. Projects supported by the program will:
