Welcome!

Invasive alien species represent a significant threat to Canada's environment, economy and society. The Government of Canada is committed to reducing invasive alien species impacts and to preventing new introductions. An Invasive Alien Species Strategy for Canada (2004) seeks to protect Canada's aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems from risks associated with invasive alien species.

The Invasive Alien Species Partnership Program (IASPP) is a key component of the Government of Canada's effort to achieve the goals outlined in the Strategy. The IASPP provides funding to provinces, municipalities, non-government organizations and to other groups who are working on invasive alien species activities, which align with the goals of the Strategy. The objective of the Program is to engage Canadians in actions that prevent, detect, and manage invasive alien species (IAS) and enables them to become actively involved in projects that directly address the threats associated with IAS.

The IASPP is a nationally delivered funding program that is administered by Environment Canada, and managed jointly with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Funding through the IASPP is available for projects that address the threat of aquatic invasive species, terrestrial invasive alien plants and plant pests, and invasive alien animals. Projects supported by the program will:

  • reduce the introduction and spread of IAS and address their pathways of invasion through prevention, detection, and management (eradication, containment, and control) activities;
  • enable Canadians to become actively involved in projects that address the threat of IAS; and
  • improve Canadians' understanding and awareness of IAS and the individual actions and choices which contribute to their introduction and spread.

This new online application system reflects the Government of Canada's intention to better serve Canadian's. The format has been standardized with other Environment Canada grants and contributions programs, but generally will remain similar to previous application IASPP forms.
